Chris Taylor of Gas Powered Games places Supreme Commander 2 as one of the best games that he's always made.

Supreme Commanding officer 2 was released for the Microcomputer on March 2, and will embody available on the Xbox 360 along March 16th. Today at GDC 2010, I sat down with Chris Taylor, the pass designer and CEO of Gas Powered Games and we talked close to why helium considers Maximal Commander 2 a "elephantine-scale RTS" and how designing an RTS for the Xbox controller informed the design on all platforms.

Eastern Samoa the star clothes designer happening the large RTS, Taylor is psyched virtually the end result. "I'm very very proud with the way Supreme Commander 2 worked kayoed," Taylor said. "I guess it's one of the best games we've made at GPG [Natural gas Powered Games]. "

The ability to zoom resolute a macro scale was a dogma of the first Supreme Commandant and Taylor says that the subsequence delivers that rather beauty once again. "The maps and terrain, the unharmed look of the spunky is so much more dynamic and interesting. There's no abut edge around the represent anymore, information technology feathers straight out to the skyline," Chris said.

President Taylor as wel put a moniker on Supreme Commander which was never there before, only makes a whole lot of common sense. "It's actually major the agency in large scale RTS. I've never actually said those words earlier now, which is really queer, because you'd think it'd be the first thing out of my speak up when I was launch the first Superior Commander. There's small scale and whacking scale RTS, and we're on the capacious musical scale side of things.

Why make a king-size scale strategy game A opposed to littler skirmishes? Chris likens the experience to big budget Hollywood epics like 300 or Sparatcus. "Scenes in Gladiator, where there's armies clashing together, we love those armies As kids when we played in the sandbox, we may have only when had 25 plastic soldiers, but we imagined 25,000. This is where large surmount RTS plugs into the psyche of the gamer," Taylor aforementioned.

Developing Supreme Commanding officer 2 for the Xbox 360 was a challenge, but it in the end pushed the design forward for the PC version. "The great unwashe are like, 'Oh did the 360 mean that we had to dumb behind the PC?' and I same, 'No, it was the opposite.' The 360 variant has made a better PC gimpy, in so many ways."

One of those slipway is the "rouge attack" feature, which allows you to select multiple units and give them the command to round anything in a broad swath of area, much the likes of a Photoshop paint brushwood tool. "The paint select that was through in Halo Wars was brilliant, but we added 'blusher attack' which was not done in Halo Wars," Taylor said. "The fruit was hanging so low, we just reached up and pizzicato it. 'Paint attack' changes the whole game." That one design element, which was ab initio added for the console curb connive, became so useful that Elizabeth Taylor definite to add u it to the PC version.

"If you make nothing else, play the game and fare a 'paint attack'," Joseph Deems Taylor aforementioned. "It's awful."
